Temporary slowdown
September 28th, 2008Although on the economic front, ’slowdown’ sounds inappropriately shy to describe what is soon becoming a great depression, it is the right word on the blogging front. I have long hesitated to write about it here, probably because I still have not made up my mind about how personal I want this blog to be. But I figure I owe that much to all my blogging friends who seldom fail to mention a word or two about what is happening in their lives, especially when it keeps them away from the keyboard.
It’s not blog burnout, it’s not boredom or weariness. I simply have been busy.
- Busy at work because I have been working on two tenders, three patents, and a spacecraft dynamics course for internal training which is turning into a testament
- Busy in the garden and the kitchen because you may have a no-work garden for pretty much of the growing season, the tomatoes still won’t pick themselves (you can read about the garden there)
- Busy at home because I am stepping in to replace my terminally pregnant wife with her computer home help business (logo by yours truly below) in my spare time and days off
- Busy in the house because we still have to build a bedroom for kid #1 so that he can leave his
bedroomstaircase landing to kid #2 when kid #2 leaves our bedroom (that would be before next summer) - And busy mentally because there maybe new opportunities job-wise (but shhush..)

This slowdown will probably last another fortnight, but after the birth I will be on leave for at least a month, leaving enough time to resume the weekly posting rhythm.
Well it is good to know what has been keeping you busy! I love the logo.
If I haven’t officially congratulated you on the imminent arrival, please accept my warmest congratulations now.
Busy good!… So am I. I miss writing on my blog, but creative projects are keeping me from it. Sounds like you’re even busier than me, and will be for a while.
PLEASE let us now when baby arrives… Gifties may be sent ; )
Charlotte: congratulations accepted.
Maria: I will let you know. There may be pictures too. And for a little nostaglia, check out what #1 looked like.
Plenty of time for posting during paternity leave with two young ones? Ha! You’ll be sleeping during any free time you get. But thanks for filling us in on what you’ve been up to these days. I love the logo, and your corn looks fabulous.
P.S. Stay slow. I’ve been very slow myself in the blog world, all summer long it seems, and I love it when I log on to people I haven’t visited in ages to find they’ve only written one post since I was last there.
I’ve slowed down as well - I think the natural by-product of blogging as regularly as I once did. I think it’s natural though and we all go in phases…just don’t disappear completely without telling us, and please, don’t do so, regardless…
Emily: I agree with you on the slow rhythm. I like to read everything my blogging friends write, but when they write every day, they are making the keeping up job much more demanding (my litlove backlog count is now 52!)
Courtney: I used to wonder whether I’d lose the motivation to write. Not anymore. I am no essayist or novelist, but I have to write notwithstanding. Blogging is the perfect outlet for that.
The mouse logo rocks! Great work. Was this done in gimp/inkscape or did you unleash Photoshop on the little animal
?
Just Inkscape.
