Very yummy, I am jealous. I used to go to the Crumpet Shop on Irving Street in San Francisco, and have crumpets with lemon curd. What struck me about this post was the similarity of the raindrops on the window to the holes in the crumpets. Was there a subliminal message in the rain on your window that made you choose crumpets, I wonder?
I cannot say whether there was an unconscious connection. In fact, it is always impossible to deny allegations of unconscious actions, so maybe you are right. What I am certain of is that crumpets are better than windows for strawberry jam.
Okay, call me crazy — but as I looked at this tantalizing photograph, the most wonderful aroma began to float around my computer. It was the scent of warm crumpets and sweet strawberry jam, the fragrance of wet trees dripping with rain, the inky-acrid perfume of old books and paper. I realized I was having an attack of clairalience, brought on by your pencast.
I do spend rainy days in bed with books, whenever possible. Unfortunately, what with a job and other things, it usually isn’t possible. Your crumpets look delicious!
I hope that, in a few years, Tai will be able to have a “click the picture to smell the crumpets” function on her computer. This is similar to the “scratch and sniff” advertisements in magazines. How cool would it be if we had a smell synthesizer which generates the required smells from a few basic refillable substances (”smell basis functions ?”), at the click of a mouse !
Not so sure I would do that with the kitty litter though .
Polaris: and the ‘organic’ version would avoid any synthetic chemicals. The only way it could generate the smell of crumpets would be to make crumpets, therefore you’d get the smell AND the crumpets…
Your crumpets look so yummy. You are making me hungry!
I was hungry too. It was absolutely tantalizing to have to go through the photo session before I could eat them…

I am relieved. I was afraid you might have smelled the slight kitty litter problem we’ve been having with the kitten.

Emily: they were indeed.
