Publicizing posting pace, patterns, and policy
October 8th, 2006After this third blogging mensiversary, I believe I have steadied my posting pace, patterns and policy. I may as well make it an official feature of the mandarine blog, so that you know what to expect. And now that I know that you know what to expect, it will be a strong motivation for me to keep up.
One major post each week
What I call a major post is a complete little essay over a specific subject. It can be a standalone article or part of a series of posts. It requires web research, writing effort, multilayer editing. Such posts have to rest and ripen before I publish them, therefore I can often announce them in advance. I am thinking about adding a ‘future posts’ list on top of a ‘recent posts’ list in the sidebar.
Other posts
Although I generally know exactly where I am going for the main themes and posts, and I intend to go there step by step at a constant pace, I can also have sudden bursts of creativity, for instance when I stumble upon small treasures from other bloggers which tickle my mind: memes, challenges, a comment grown so big that it should become a post, etc. These spur-of-the-moment bits I will post in-between.
And then there are goodies and crumbles that can fill the holes here and there. Also, I am thinking about recycling some previous posts, for those of you who (like me) read new posts in real-time through their feed readers and do not take the time to skim an archive in search of past unread nuggets.
So, stay tuned. I can boldly announce that my next post will be about the way small improbable events can change the whole course of a life (or in this case, a love) — because Emily asked me. For this, I will have to do archaeology into my teen-age diaries, so do not expect anything before tuesday.
Sounds like a plan! You did find my code for creating future post titles? If not, let me know and I’ll email you the code.
Oh, and does this mean you are going to add a sidebar to your single posts so we can figure out what you are doing all over your blog?
I did not know something existed to create lists of future posts (I was thinking I would start maintaining a list manually) — thanks a lot.
And I will probably try to add a sidebar to the single post view — but it means I will have to tweak the theme, and you know I am reluctant to go there.
