Moving for real: please hang on tight
September 1st, 2007So, there it is: after having said at least three times over the past twelve months that I would go to a real hosting service, I have taken the big jump. I will post soon about the new domain name and some of my choices. For the time being, I am just trying not to lose too many nuts and bolts while I make the move.
With the help of Maria, I have setup a .htaccess file with a Redirect permanent instruction, that should be taking you transparently here

Known glitches
The blogroll has disappeared, but I intend to do it all over again, with many many more links to all my readers.
The site map page is kind of strange. This will change too, as I intend to drastically simplify the structure of categories quite soon
Interrogations
I am not sure that the rss feed (for those who keep up with mandarine via their feedreader) follows. You will probably have to modify the feed address to feed:http://www.wisemandarine.com/feed/.
Although search engines will apparently update their index automatically based on the permanent redirect, I sort of believe your links to mandarine won’t. So, if you wish to have an up-to-date address in your blogroll, please change it to: www.wisemandarine.com (much simpler, isn’t it?).

Thank you Dorothy. You were actually the one who showed me that it was probably not such a terrible catastrophe to move (you did something much more radical).
I like the new system because there is a support team of more than one person; because it allows pretty permalinks; because the domain name and the urls are now much simpler. There may still be unexpected difficulties though, as I chose a host that was on the cheap side. Time will tell.
Yay! The redirect seems to be working. I just tested a few links from my blog to your posts and they resolve correctly. Thank you for NOT breaking our links on your move.
Also, although I just updated your feed address, your old feed was also redirecting well, so hopefully you won’t lose any subscribers.
Yes, I was also suprised that the feeds seemed to redirect when I had not done anything special. .htaccess is some powerful feature…
Overall, it went more smoothly than I had feared.
