And Lorelle had me blogging

July 4th, 2006

I had been beating around the bush for some months now, wondering and pondering, and brooding my grand blog design. But still nothing was published, apart from the odd comment I would leave here and there on literate blogs. And then Lorelle launched her blogging challenge and is got me diving head first into the cold and turbulent and exhilerating creek of the blogging world.

It’s not that I will abandon my grand design. Stay tuned for the grand opening. But that blog project is more about piecewise publishing of a book than sharing personal stuff. And Lorelle got me to understand that whatever the quality and interest of the technical content you capture in your blog, it always remains a personal matter. Hence the mandarine blog. And thank you Lorelle.

I thought I’d posted a thank you, but with all the traveling I’ve been doing, I might have been doing more thinking than thanking.

Thank you for the kind words. It means a lot to me to think I motivated you just a bit.

I was…shall we say “harshly spoken to”…by a fellow professional photographer when I began to add the business of nature photography to my teaching programs. “You’ll just be giving away all our secrets and encouraging others to take business away from you. You’re just increasing the competition.”

I still don’t agree, all these years later. The more I teach about the business I’m in, the better I am at it. Also, I can tell you all the secrets in the world on how to succeed in business or life, but it is up to you to use them. Truth is, 99% of my students listen and do nothing. The 1% who do are doing just great. And my industry is better because of the 1%, not the 99%. Trust me.

So thank you for being in the 1% crowd. You will do great things if you just keep on doing the doing and not the sitting.

You are my inspiration! Thank you!
